Lo Que La Vida Me Robó: Spanglish Girl’s Recap & Review February 17-21

More truths were revealed this week: Graciela reveals more of her past to her children—specifically that she did have a child with Benjamin and, even worse, she killed it! Dimitrio and Graciela twistedly decide to use hair from the dead baby to falsely pass off as Dimitrios, in an attempt to claim half of Alejandro’s wealth.

Graciela also learns of Rosario’s identity and so does Maria! Of course, Maria and Graciela are stunned and immediately apologetic for their behavior towards her but, of course, it’s a little too late. Rosario has already formed her opinion of them both.

Montserrat and Alejandro also revive their relationship but only after Alejandro grants Montserrat a divorce… Yes you heard me right: after he grants Montserrat a divorce! Alejandro’s plan is to win her over but this time he allows her to choose freely.

On Friday, Alejandro finds Maria and realizes she has attempted to take her own life after learning that he and Montserrat are together again. Now, I know we all have our opinions on Maria, but I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. Truthfully, I found myself crying while I watched this scene. Her character has suffered a lot: first the death of her father, then she loses Alejandro to Montserrat, and her uncle passes.

Of course, she did herself no justice by being a conniving and evil brat, but I can’t help but feel that Alejandro is also to blame. He took Maria as his “mistress” (we find out they never actually did the deed) and gave her false hope by making her the “woman of his house” in an attempt to forget Montserrat and pay her back. So I do feel that he is partly to blame: he selfishly used her and in many ways led her on.

I liked Maria’s character early on, but then she became an evil person and I began to dislike her. We’ll have to see if her storyline comes to an end next week. The previews show that Alejandro feels remorse, but it’s not clear if she actually passes.

Last but not least there is Jose Luis who is still pinning for Montserrat—I’m annoyed: Angelica deserves better. He has a wonderful wife who loves him with all her heart and he is still obsessed with Montserrat! Angelica also seems to finally be on the brink of death.

At this point, I think the only happy ending will be for Montserrat and Alejandro. Their love has left a path of destruction, and I’m not sure if this novela is going to have a happy ending anymore. Although Alejandro and Montserrat make up and forgive each other, Alejandro still seems to harbor lots of resentment and jealousy, especially because he overhears Montserrat telling Jose Luis that he is still the love of her life.

What Alejandro doesn’t hear is that Jose Luis begged her to say it while he was close to death. Montserrat, thinking he is dying, says it to appease him, but later he recalls her saying it and not that he begged her to say it. So I get the feeling that once Angelica dies, he will still pursue Montserrat.

We’ll have to see what happens next week. So far, from the previews, it looks like there will be lots going on and thankfully, lots to blog about.

Until next week,

Spanglish Girl

Ps. I almost forgot to mention Carlota’s date! I think she is going to quickly realize that her boyfriend is not who she thinks him to be, and what about Graciela’s comments towards her! What a witch! I hope Carlota finds love, but not with that guy, and I hope she moves away and lives happily ever after with a nice guy. It’s a novela–it could happen!
